Some claims sit well outside a writer's own personal expertise entirely, whether they involve technical processes, specialised terminology, or a field with its own internal standards of evidence that an outsider can easily misread without proper guidance from someone genuinely qualified in that particular area of knowledge and practice.
Verification in these cases means finding someone genuinely qualified to review the relevant section, not simply for style but specifically for accuracy, and being honestly willing to revise a claim whenever their considered reading differs meaningfully from the writer's original assumption about how something actually functions in practice.
Building this step into a working process from the very outset, rather than treating it as a rushed afterthought immediately before publication, tends to produce writing that holds up far better under scrutiny from readers who happen to know the subject well themselves already, sometimes considerably better than the writer does at that point.
